Point of Impact
As the newly elected Commissioner, I wanted to thank Tim Langwald, Bonnie Web and Forrest Waldy for their exemplary service as officers to The Villages Air Gun Club. I would also like to take this opportunity, to introduce myself to some of the club members that I have not had the pleasure to meet yet. I look forward to assisting this club and its members in productive ways over the next year.
My wife, Sue, and I attended an "introduction to air gun shooting" on a Tuesday at the Rio Grande Range back in July. We had some prior experience with firearms in Illinois, but had little opportunity to experience air guns, so we wanted to check it out. The members of the club we spoke with that day were very outgoing and helpful, they explained the sport and a number of them were generous enough to allow us to shoot their personal equipment. We really enjoyed it, enough that we joined the club that day, and we returned on Thursday to shoot in the competition (with Rec Center guns).
A couple weeks later, an email was sent out mentioning the need of Range Marshalls at the Rio Grande Range. I am a recently retired businessman, and was looking for things to keep myself busy with, so I showed up at the range and inquired about learning how to be a Range Marshall. Over the next 2 days, Lenny Callen and Larry Davidson, taught me how to Marshall a match. I have been helping with the Range Marshalling every other Thursday since (Lenny Callen and I take turns at Rio Grande Range).
Although this club and it's members are truly wonderful, I have had a few conversations with fellow members in which the subject of improvements to the club have arisen. I do not wish for those members to feel as those ideas fell on deaf ears. My goals are to explore and help with improvements in areas such as communication, organization, and new events that would help "promote organized and individual shooting". I also want to invite members to feel free to contact me with suggestions or concerns at anytime. My contact info is listed on the website under Officers.
In closing, I wish to remind all members that there is always room for more Scorers and Range Marshalls...If you are able and willing to help, it would be greatly appreciated!
